Employment As An Insurance Salesman

Question

I had a question in regard to halaal income. I am about to start my career as a car and home insurance agent. I will be selling car and home insurance to people and was wondering if it is halaal to do so or would I have to get away from the whole industry?

Answer

Conventional insurance policies and schemes contain elements of interest and gambling that are forbidden in Shari’ah. Therefore, to sell or work for companies that promote such schemes and policies is not permissible.

To sell insurance in reality is assisting others in sin, whereas Allah Ta’aala has prohibited us from assisting others in sin.

Allah Ta’aala says in the Quraan-e-Majeed:

And do not assist each other in sin and transgression.
