Selling insurance policies

Question

I had a question in regard to halaal income. I am about to start my career as a car and home insurance agent. I will be selling car and home insurance to people and was wondering if it is halaal to do so or would I have to get away from the whole industry. Also what about real estate agent?

Answer

1. The fact that insurance companies revolve around interest and gambling is enough evidence that this is an institution of haraam. Hence, becoming an agent for an insurance company is not permissible. For further details refer to http://muftionline.co.za/node/12996

2. If you referring to becoming and agent for selling properties, then it is permissible.
