Failing to give Mahr at the Nikah

Question

A Nikah was performed but the Mahr was not given. Is the Nikah valid?

Answer

If the Nikah was performed in compliance to the fundamental requirements for Nikah to be valid, the Nikah will be valid even though the Mahr was not exchanged at the time of the Nikah. Although the Mahr is obligatory upon the marriage being concluded, it is not a condition for the validity of the Nikah.

The husband remains obligated to provide the stipulated Mahr to his wife.
