How should a person divide his/her Qurbani meat?
Question
We have completed our qurbani and received our meat from the butcher. We were able to give a third of the meat to a local charity. However we’re not able to distribute amongst family and friends due to the virus. Is it possible for us to keep more than a third for our own consumption?
Answer
(Question publishes as received)
It is permissible for the Qurbani meat to be kept entirely for oneself or distributed to whomever one wishes.
However, it is preferable (Mustahab) to divide it into three portions; one portion for oneself, one portion for one’s family and friends, and one portion to the poor and needy (both Muslims and non-Muslims) where possible. (Tabyeen-ul-Haqaaiq 6/8)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
Where scholars differ, it’s safer to take the more cautious view.
