Question

Do any of the following statements and actions constitute kufr:

1. One's mother walks into the room to pray, and you tell her to go pray somewhere else (or go pray in another room) because you're watching something on your computer.

2. Committing sinful acts (like watching pornography, masturbation, listening to music) in the same room where the Holy Qur'an is kept, and other Islamic books and literature is kept (like books of Durood Shareef).

3. Someone says that the Old Testament is barbaric and harsh, and one nods and smiles in agreement.

Answer

1. It does not amount to disbelief, but this is extreme stupidity that you turn your mother away from the room for such nonsense.

2. Break that the instrument of pornography and other instruments and throw it out of the room.

3. The previous books have been distorted and mutilated. Perhaps you are referring to the distortion and mutilations that are man made. Hence, this will not amount to disbelief.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Q: In response to question no. 2, did the person commit kufr by committing these sinful acts in the same room where the Holy Qur'an and other Islamic literature and Durood Shareef is kept? Does he need to repeat his Shahadatayn in order to return to Islam (in case this was kufr)?

A: This is gross disrespect though it is not shirk and disbelief.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
