Question

When performing tawaaf of umrah, I mistakenly commenced the tawaaf from Maqaam-e-Ebrahim instead of the Hajr-e-Aswad. Is my umrah valid?

Answer

Commencing the tawaaf from the Hajr-e-Aswad and ending at the Hajr-e-Aswad is sunnah.

If one commenced the tawaaf from any other place around the Ka’bah Shareef and he completed seven rounds of the tawaaf, ending at the same point where he had commenced, then the tawaaf will be valid.

However, the sunnah of commencing the tawaaf from the Hajr-e-Aswad and ending at the Hajr-e-Aswad has been left out. Hence, it will be makrooh for one to do so and the reward of the tawaaf will be decreased. Nevertheless, the umrah will be valid.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
